TAS6422-Q1: Current consumption

My customer asked us about the current consumption of the TAS6424-Q1 and TAS6422-Q1.

They will use one TAS6424-Q1 and one TAS5422-Q1. Total chnnels are six.
They have TAS6424Q1EVM, but don't have TAS6422Q1EVM.

The current consumption was measured under the following conditions, the values were different.

<TAS6424-Q1>
Condition: No input signal,
Supply voltage: 20 V --> 341mA
Supply voltage: 26 V --> 459mA

Does the current consumption change only by changing the power supply voltage?

<TAS6422-Q1>
Please let me know current consumption of TAS6422-Q1 under same condition of TAS6424-Q1.

We need some more information. Was the device in Play mode? Are you using a 4 ohm load?

I confirmed my customer about your questions.

Was the device in Play mode?
--> Yes, it was in Play mode.
Are you using a 4 ohm load?
--> They use 8 ohm load with TAS6422-Q1. So we request current consumption of 8ohm load.
(Mesurement data of TAS6424-Q1 were using 4 ohm.)

How is the situation?
Current consumption of TAS6424 is causing thermal issue in their system.
They have to decide method to solve it for prototype.
So they are in a hurry a little bit.

How is a progress of measurement of TAS6422-Q1 ?
Here is summary of measurement condition.

Measurement parameter: Supply current of PVDD at 20V, 26V
Device ; TAS6422-Q1
Measurement condition;
VBAT = 18 V
PVDD =20V, 26V
VDD = 3.3 V,
RL = 8 Ω,
Input signal = no signal
fSW = 2.11 MHz

I would appreciate your measurement ASAP.

Hirata-san,
The measurements for above parameters were made using a TAS6422 EVM. The 3.3Vdc power did not use the regulator on the pcb. An external supply was used to separate the 3.3Vdc from the PVDD current measurements.

Case 1
PVDD = 20Vdc
Ipvdd = 33mA
VBAT = 18Vdc
Ivbat = 66ma

Case 2
PVDD = 26Vdc
Ipvdd = 37mA
VBAT = 18Vdc
Ivbat = 37mA

I answered to customer about TAS6422-Q1 current consumption.
After that, They are requesting below;

1. Are Ipvdd the total current(Pin No. 2/29/30/42/43/55/56) ?

> Case 1
> PVDD = 20Vdc
> Ipvdd = 33mA
> VBAT = 18Vdc
> Ivbat = 66ma
>
> Case 2
> PVDD = 26Vdc
> Ipvdd = 37mA
> VBAT = 18Vdc
> Ivbat = 37mA

2. Could you measure PVDD current consumption of TAS6424Q1EVM in same condition of TAS6422-Q1 ?

Current consumption of TAS6424Q1EVM measured customer and TAS6422Q1EVM measured TI are no correlated.
So they are requesting these.

Hirata-san,

The measurements that are at the beginning of this thread appear to have the 3.3Vdc included. The 3.3Vdc powers all the peripheral circuitry and consumes significant current so the current of PVDD and VBat cannot be measured. Note in my tests, the 3.3Vdc was powered from an external power supply. They need to test with an external supply also.

I confiremed that they measured PVDD and VDD independently.

Could you measure with the following measurement conditions?

Device ; TAS6422-Q1
Measurement condition;
VBAT = 18 V
PVDD =20V, 26V
VDD = 3.3 V,
RL = 8 Ω,
Input signal = Input
Output signal = No signal
fSW = 2.11 MHz

I again confirmed their measurement conditions.
There were one mistakes.
It is an input signal.
They input I2S input signal.
But the output is no signal.

Test method is following.
Change point is "I2S Input signal".
And I added "Output signal".

Device ; TAS6422-Q1
Measurement condition;
VBAT = 18 V
PVDD =20V, 26V
VDD = 3.3 V,
RL = 8 Ω,
I2S Input signal = Input
Output signal = No signal
fSW = 2.11 MHz

If you need other setting used by our customer, please let me know.

I tested the device per your requirements and found that there was one reporting error above.
Case 1
PVDD = 20Vdc
Ipvdd = 33mA
VBAT = 18Vdc
Ivbat = 66ma

Case 2
PVDD = 26Vdc
Ipvdd = 37mA
VBAT = 18Vdc
Ivbat = 69mA This one was wrong.

I then tested with I2S signal present and found there were not changes in the PVDD current or VBAT current. The Amplifier needed to be in mute mode so the signal would not increase the current.

I'm sorry for late reply.
I am re-confirming their measurement conditions.

I have a question about user guide.
There is a description below on 1 page of user guide.

3.Power Supply Unit (PSU) up to 26.4 V, > 6 A capable, if J2 is removed and 12 V is provided. If J12 is
in, limit the input voltage to 18 V.

Under this condition I think that it can not be confirmed with the power supply voltage 20V.
Is this correct?
If this is correct, please let me know how to check with ≥ 20V.
