PCM1781: Low sampling clock and system clock condition

Guru 19555 points
Part Number: PCM1781

When sampling clock and system clock frequency set lower than IC's recommended range , what problem occur this application?

⇒For example; noisy sound, sound clipped, IC is not power on, etc.

Request spec is below;

・Vcc: 5V or 3.3V

・DAC channel: 1ch or 2ch

・Control Interface: Hardware, Right-justified

・Sampling clock: 8kHz

・System clock: 3.072MHz or 6.144MHz

・DE-emphasis and Mute: OFF

I think that nearest IC is PCM1781, but clock specification is out of recommended spec.

(Sampling clock: 32kHz_min, System clock: 8.192MHz_min)

If there recommended device for matched above spec, please let me know together.

Best regards,

Satoshi

  • Hi Satoshi-san,

    I believe that is recommended minimum for music, as less than 32k fS would start to affect the audible region. The device can operate at 8kHz fS, see Table 1 in the PDS. With a 8kHz sample rate, higher frequencies will not represented. Though if this is being used in a low cost application where the speaker will only be playing a limited tone set or chimes, it should be okay.

    Thanks!
