TAS5613 max temperature

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS5613

Hi,

I've earmarked the TAS5613 in stereo BTL mode for an aviation project. The only problem is that the qualification requirements includes operation at 85degrees Celsius ambient, while the TAS5613 is only rated to 70degrees.

However, the output power condition for the 85degrees test may be suitably derated to dop the case temperature make it pass (e.g. 50W).

Is there any information available of how the amplifier will perform at elevated ambient temperatures, or what measures can be taken to ensure operation? Also, any particular design area that will require special attention besides cooling and thermal ratings of associated parts?

Regards,

Pierre

  • Pierre, the data sheet rating is for the EVM, which is not expected to be operated above 70C.  The device will operate nicely at higher ambient temperatures with low enough thermal impedance to ambient.

The real limitation is junction temperature.  I recommend a target of 125 to 130 C worst case to provide margin in the design.  If you design your thermal interface to achieve that sort of worst case Tj with 85C ambient, you will be able to operate at 85C ambient with no problem.

    Best regards,

    Steve.
