TPA3116D2-Q1: Choosing correct power amplifier module - similar modules

Please delete this post if it is not appropriate however I wanted some help with choosing the correct power amplifier.

The requirements were as follows:

Up to 50W per channel for a stereo power amplifier
Load: 4-16Ohms

I was mostly looking at the TPA3116 just because it is commonly used however it is not a good enough reason to choose it. Having said that all the devices listed below seem to be similar to me - perhaps can anyone shed some light on their differences please?

Hi Luke,

Are you looking for an automotive grade audio amplifier? What would be audio input, analog or digital?

Hi Andy,

Thank you for your reply. The input is going to be analog from a preamplifier (all of these ICs should be able to take an analog input since I chose it as a filtering option).

Although I am not looking for an automotive grade, robustness would be ideal since I would like to use it for a PA system application (i.e. to drive speakers/cabinets).

Hi Andy,

Thank you for your reply! From a quick look it does seem quite similar to the the TPA3116D2.

Do you know of any drastic changes in the parameters? Or scenarios where the TPA3126 would be a better option than the TPA3116 please?

Hi Luke,

TPA3126D2 is pin to pin compatible with TPA3116D2. Basically, it is a performance upgrade to TPA3116D2. It has a more efficient, 90-mΩ MOSFET, and has an extremely-low idle current, compared with TPA3116D2.

Another big difference is that TPA3126D2 is a pad-up device, which means it requires a heat-sink for heat dissipation. TPA3116D2 is a pad-down amplifier and therefore it uses PCB for heatsinking.
