PCM5242RHBEVM: Can it support 44.1/48/88.4/96/176.4/192KHz sample rates audio source in HybirdFlow 5 mode?

Part Number: PCM5242RHBEVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PCM5242

Hi

Can the PCM5242RHBEVM support 44.1/48/88.4/96/176.4/192KHz sample rates audio source in HybirdFlow 5 mode ?

  • Another,

When we connect 192k audio source from optical, The EVM can't work normal. such as below picture. Can you give some suggestion ? thanks

  • Hi Aggil,

The PCM5242 can support many rates in with Hybrid Flow 5, but the EVM itself is not capable of generating anything other than 44.1k/48kHz.  The PSIA connectors (JP1-4) allow an external I2S source to be connected to the DAC for this type of testing, such as the PSIA module on the Audio Precision System 2 instruments.

In the image you shared, you have selected the PSIA, which will require you to provide an external input.  If you want to use the optical input, click the optical connector icon in the GUI.

    Thanks,

    Paul

  • Hi Pual

Thank you. I want to confirm whether the EVM support 192k rates using the optical input .

If we want to tune the 192K audio soure and download the register configuration file, Should the i2s source be only from JP1-4 ?

  • Hi Aggil,

That is correct.  192kHz data must be provided externally.

    Thanks,

    Paul

  • Hi Paul

Thanks. We find a another question. When we use HF5 mode(no other changed) and JP1-4 is as the external I2S source.

When the data is 192K, the output is ok, there is no distortion.

When the date is 48K, or 44.1K, 96K, there is more or less distortion. What we need to do for reducing the distortion when the data is not 192K ?

From the file SLAU577A, it can support 8-192 date in the HF5 mode.

  • Hi Aggil,

I think this is just a poor implementation in the software.  The process flow coefficients would be the same, but I think you would need to reconfigure the clock tree and instruction commands for the other sample rates.

In this regard the GUI is only useful for testing the 192kHz.  Once you have tuned the PCM to your liking, you will need to handle the sample rate changes manually.

    Thanks,

    Paul
