PCM9211: Recommendation for Coax amplifier

Part Number: PCM9211
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: THS4551, TLV3541

Hello,

do you have a recommendation for a coax amplifier at MPO0/MPO1?

Thank you very much,

Simon

  • Hello Simon,

The PCM9211 features two COAX amplifier inputs at RXIN0 and RXIN1.  Are you asking how to discretely build a COAX receiver channel external to the PCM9211 to accept more than two COAX inputs?

  • Hello Collin,

I am looking for a coax output at the Ports MPO0/MPO1. They can be used as SPDIF outputs, but I want to use them as coax outputs - so I will need an amplifier.

Do you have any recommendations for this purpose?

    Best regards,

    Simon

  • Hi Simon,

If you want to transmit the signal differentially then you may consider a fully-differential amplifier like the THS4551 to do the singled-ended to differential conversion and provide the power gain you need.

If you plan to transmit single-ended then you might consider a device like the TLV3541 which offers rail-to-rail inputs and outputs and a drive current of +/-100mA.

There are many amplifiers that would likely suit your needs fine but I think these two offer a good starting point and we have TINA/pSpice models available for them so you can verify your circuit performance before building a pcb. Hope this helps!

    Best,

    Zak
