TPA6166A2: How to connect MOUTP/MOUTN to standard single end mic input?

Part Number: TPA6166A2
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: THS3215

Dear TI team,

Would you let me know how to TPA6166A2 mic output MOUTP/MOUTN to single end mic input?

Our Audio codec IC has single one mic input pin and one mic bias pin although TPA6166A2 mic output seems diffrential.

BR,

Matsuda

  • Hi, Matsuda,

Welcome to E2E and thank you for your interest in our products!

Unfortunately, this device is a Class-G output device and the outputs cannot be directly connected in single-ended configuration. You would need to convert the output with an intermediary device such the THS3215.

Or, in case you are not interested in add this devices, I would suggest to replace this device by a Class-AB device or another amplifier with single-ended output supported.

I hope this helps you. Please let me know i you have additional questions or comments.

    Best regards,

  • Hi Luis-san,

    Thank you for quick feedback.

Is it possible to connect only MOUTN to Audio codec with sigle-ended mic input??

MOUTP seems to come from Mic Bias in TPA6166 as per Simplified Schematic in datasheet.

So does only MOUTN swing ??

  • Hi, Matsuda,

Thank you for the clarification. Yes, you are right, MOUTN can be directly connected to a single-ended mic input since it is a microphone preamplifier output. MOUTP would be the connection from MICBIAS as you correctly said.

Please let me know if you have additional questions or comments. We will be glad to help you.

    Best regards,

  • Hi Luis-san,

    Thank you for your answer.

・When MICVDD is off, VDD is on , tpa6166a2 is set in shutdown mode, how much power is consumed from VDD ?

    BR,

    Matsuda

  • Hi, Matsuda,

During shutdown mode, VDD typically consumes 108uA if accessory is inserted. When there's no accessory inserted, the current consumption may be reduced down to 11uA.
