TPA6166A2: Question of TPA6166 Crosstalk Test Result on the EVM

Part Number: TPA6166A2

Hi Sirs,

I got inconsistent crosstalk test results with TPA6166 EVM and datasheet. Would you please advise how to improve it?
If there is limitation on the EVM. Would you pls provide official test result based on the test condition:

My test was done by common ground of the AP, 32ohm load and power supply.

I can see crosstalk signal on a disabled channel as the picture below:

DIgital gain was set to 0dB at 0x07 and 0x08:

w 80 07 B9 #Left Headphone Volume Register
w 80 08 79 #Right Headphone Volume Register

I tried to reduce the digital gain of one of the output channels to the minimum, however, it cannot solve the crosstalk problem:

Would you pls advise how to achieve datasheet's test result on the EVM?

We need crosstalk <=-50dB across 100Hz~15kHz with 32ohm and 320ohm loads to design-in this parts in high volume OEM.

Thank you and Best regards,

  • Hi Wayne,

Usually Crosstalk is evaluated by removing the 3.5mm jack from the board, the jack will affect crosstalk.
You should connect directly to the pads on the board.

  • Hello Ivan,

Thank you for your advise. My crosstalk result was improved with dummy load connected to the EVM directly.

Would you please review my test result and provide comment?

    With customer's test standard:

    32ohm (-20dBFS=72.59mVrms Input):

    320ohm (-20dBFS=93.50mVrms Input):

With the same test condition of the TPA6166 datashet (1kHz at 25mW, 32ohm load). I got 57dB of crosstalk which has 5dB gap to the specification of the datasheet.

With Sleeve and Ring2 connected to GND. I can improve the corsstalk for 10dB, which is close the specification of the datasheet.

Would you please review my test result and advise if there is missing or mistake?

    Thank you and Best regards,
