PCM2706C: USB to I2S out function in PCM2706C

Part Number: PCM2706C

Hi all,

My customer need an USB to I2S function. Is PCM2706C is ok for the application? (the frequency is limited to 48Khz right?)  If not, any other solution is workable in TI?

And, what's the function in PCM2706C's DIN? Its data can be used as DOUT's source or?

Best regards,

Gary Teng

  • Hi Gary,

This would be a good fit.  The frequency is limited, but there are not many other options.  You could look at the PCM29xx devices, but they are usually designed to support a microphone as well.

The DIN function is not for a microphone input.  The DIN allows you to drive the internal DAC with an external I2S source, but that feature was mostly for device validation.  If you already have an external I2S source, you would probably use another low-cost DAC with higher performance.

    Thanks,

    Paul

  • Hi Paul,

     Thanks for your response.

And about DIN signal, if that's DAC source, how to choose USB/I2S input as the source? (Just for interesting...)

    Best regards,

    Gary

  • Hi Gary,

I am not 100% sure how to use that feature, it is not well documented in the datasheet.  I suspect that it would happen automatically if there was no USB input and you externally drove the I2S bus, but once again, not sure.

    Thanks,

    Paul
