PCM2900C: PCM2900C can't be found on Macbook Pro

Part Number: PCM2900C
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PCM2900

Hi all,

My customer's use PCM2900C on their usb audio product design.

1. Function is ok at win10 laptop.

2. Device can't be found on MBP 13" (MacOS v10.15.3)

3. Device can be found on MBP if PCM2900 is connected after a usb hub.

Is there any compatible question about TI's PCM9 with Macbook? Or any design issue on customer board?

Thanks for your kindly help.

Best regards,

Gary Teng

  • Hi Gary,

We have heard that certain applications on MacOS systems seem to fail to recognize the PCM29xx series of USB Audio devices.  One customer reported it was recognized by the OS, and would work with Zoom and a few other voice apps, but wouldn't work with Skype for some reason, very odd behaviors and we're not sure if a solution was found or not as they did not report back.  This behavior sounds a little different though as the device is not being recognized at all.

These devices were developed some years back to be fully UAC1.0 compliant, but as modern OS systems change and UAC2.0 is more common there are occasionally unexpected issues.  The device is fully hard-coded in it's operation so changes or settings updates must be tried on the PC/OS side to see if the device can be recognized.

Has the customer confirmed if any of the PC based USB ports function?  If not, it may be that the docking station is providing some layer of conversion or increased power that the PC USB port seems to not be providing.

  • Hi Collin,

Thanks for your response. We'll check with customer about if any issue found on PC base function. BTW, is there any solution we have currently to replace PCM2900 in usb audio codec application? Thanks for your kindly help.

    Regards,

    Gary

  • Hi Collin,

Do you have a USB CODEC part as PCM2900 but support both WINDOWS and MAC OSX system?

    Thanks!

  • Hi Collin,

Do you have any solution for our customer in UAC2.0 application?

    Gary

  • Hello Everyone,

Apologies for the delay, I was out for the US holidays.  At the time of this posting, my best solution would be to look into solutions from other USB Audio vendors if a single-chip UAC2.0 solution is desired.
