DIT4096: running DIT4096 / DIT4192 in hardware mode

Part Number: DIT4096
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DIT4192, , DIX4192

Team,

Can you help answer customer's question below:

We would like to run DIT4096 / DIT4192 in hardware mode.  The datasheet shows (Figure 3) that the AES-3 frame bits 4-7 are used for “aux data”, per the standard.  However, there is a standard usage of these aux data bits as audio data, extending the precision of the audio sample data from 20 to 24 bits.  Table V shows that, in hardware mode, there are three 24-bit data input formats.  But the datasheet does not state whether the 4 LSBs will be placed in the aux data bits.

Can you confirm that all 24 audio sample data bits will go into the AES-3 output data, using the aux data bits for the 4 LSBs of the sample data on both of these components?

Thanks

Viktorija

  • Hi Viktorija,

The transmitter devices accept 24-bit input formats or 16-bit and the data will be placed in the aux bits if using a 24-bit mode.

    Best,

    Zak

  • Thank you.  We were unsure, since the AES-3 diagram in the datasheets for these two devices differs from that in other devices (e.g., DIX4192), which explicitly states that the aux data bits will be used for either aux data or audio.  Since the datasheets for these two devices didn't include this information, we though it best to confirm all 24 data bits would go out on the AES-3 output.

    Thanks again for the clarification!
