TAS2110: abnormal audible noise

Hi team,

My customer is evaluating the TAS2110. Could you please support the following questions?

After booting the device, when switching the TDM_CFG2 from 00b (or 01b/10b) to 11b, a strange noise(abnormal audible noise) is generated. (The input signal downmix + abnormal sounds such as the harmonics of the input signal are mixed and output.)

When performing the above control, are there any additional registers other than TDM_CFG2 that need to be controlled?
Also, if there are any restrictions on the order of register control, can you tell us about them?

Hi Yamaguchi-san,

It is not recommended to perform TDM configuration changes on the fly.

Please try by following this sequence:

Take the device into shutdown mode (write 0x0e into register 0x02)
Add some delay eg. 5ms
Change TDM settings
Take the device into active mode (write 0x0c into register 0x02)

Hi Ivan-san,

I received the feedback about the downmix output from the customer.

They tried the sequence, but still occurs the abnormal audible noise. (There is no problem if the TDM setting is L only (0x1A) and R only (0x2A).)

The commands are sent in the following order. Is there any problem with the parameters and command sending order?
(Note that the values of 0x03, 0x34, and 0x40 are intended to be parameters that output 8ohm 2W at Volume 0db.)

Hi Yamaguchi-san,

I found the root cause of the noise you were getting.

At the beginning of your script you write 0x0D into register 0x02, this is taking the device into Mute mode instead of Software Shutdown.
All the register configurations to the device should be performed with the device in Software Shutdown mode. Once I changed this command from 0x0D to 0x0E the audio is OK.

Thank you for the answer.

Just to be sure, is it correct that the only register that needs to be set in the software shutdown mode is the Page = 0x00 register (as described in the datasheet P50 and P51)?

For example, Volume Control with Page = 0x02 seems to have to be set in Active mode, and EVM seems to be able to set it in Active mode.

Volume Control can be modified in Active mode. All processing and audio interface configurations are recommended to be performed in software shutdown mode.
