TAS5601: Amplifier stuck in shutdown (SE configuration)

Part Number: TAS5601

The FAULT pin is all the time on low and therefore i get no output on the Speaker. I only connected one speaker to one output terminal, the rest of the outputs stay unconnected. Also only one input is connected.

I already read it could be a problem with the Inductor, but the used inductor has more or less the same specification as the one used in the Evaluation Module. It is a Bourns SRN8040TA-220M with 220 uH and and Current Rating of 2,9A.

The RESET pin deliveres a high signal.
There is a screenshot of the schematic:

  • It is a Bourns SRN8040TA-220M with 220 uH

    Sorry, I meant 22uH.

  • Hi Severin,

I've got a few follow up questions:

    - Are you sending a differential input signal to the channel you are trying to output audio?

    - Have you tried running a PWM signal on all channels? Even the unused ones?

    - Have you tried attaching loads to the other channels?

    - Have you tried different inductors?

If you can also share more details on your system, like the load impedance that you are using, input PWM frequency, and PVCC voltage.

    Thanks,

    Robert Clifton

  • Hello Robert,

I am sending a differential PWM Input signal from my STM32 Blue Pill.
I have tried to running the PWM Signal on all chanenls some minutes ago, but all i hear is a crackling noise as i give power to the amp and then  the amp immediatly goes into shutdown mode.
I have not yet attached loads to all channels simultaneously.
I haven't yet tried different Inductors, but i'll definitly do that if nothing else helps.

The Testobject is a Peerless PMT-37N28AL01-04 Loudspeaker. It has 4Ohm and 0.07mH.
PVCC is 18V supplied from a Voltcraft VLP 2403 Pro labor power supply. (The STM32 is also supplied from this PSU but on a different channel with 3.3V)

  • Hi Severin,

Oh you are testing with a speaker! I'd also check testing with 4ohm resistive load.

I'm not familiar with the STM32 Blue Pill. What's the PWM frequency? Also does the STM32 follow our recommendations described in the CLOSED-LOOP POWER STAGE CHARACTERISTICS section of the datasheet?

    Best Regards,

    Robert Clifton

  • Hello Robert,
I think i found the Problem: it seems like my generated PWM output from the STM32 was too unprecise. Even in 50% duty cycle the falling edge was not constant and had a lot of jitter. I reprogrammed it and it is working now, still the PWM is not perfect, so i still get some audible noise.
What techniqe would you recommend, in order to generate a quality PWM Signal?
