TAS2562: TAS2562 PCM Software volume Issue.

Part Number: TAS2562

Dear TI Team,

If you lower the PCM Software volume on the TAS2652, you will experience a loss of output.

Amp Can you tell me which point to check in the setting?

The following is the register setting.

/ # i2cdump -f -y -r 0x00-0xf0 2 0x4c

  • Hi Chun,

What do you mean by "PCM Software Volume" is it DVC_PCM?

If you reduce the volume, the output will be reduced as well.

  • Dear Ivan

    It means volume.

I know that reducing the volume will also reduce the output.

Decreasing the volume will interrupt the output intermittently.

Checking the input waveform when the output is intermittently interrupted confirms normal operation.

    Thanks.

  • Chun,

What volume are you changing? TAS2562 has:

    • DVC_PCM in Page 2, Registers 0x0C to 0x0F
    • AMP_LEVEL in Page 0, Register 0x03 bits 4:0

DVC_PCM can be adjusted during playback, but AMP_LEVEL should be adjusted only when device is not enabled.
If AMP_LEVEL needs an adjustment, you must follow the below procedure:

    1. Set the device into SW shutdown (page 0, register 2, bits 1:0 = 10)
    2. Adjust AMP_LEVEL (page 0, register 3 bits 4:0)
    3. Return the device into active mode (page 0, register 2, bits 1:0 = 00)

  • Dear Ivan,

We control the volume by adjusting the Gain to the software for the input sound source.

The volume of TASTAS2562 is fixed.

We tested using a 1Khz source and found that when the gain of the input source is reduced to 21%, the output is intermittently interrupted,

and when the gain is lowered to 20% or less, the silence occurs.

Is there a way to improve the above symptoms?

We attach the sound that we used.

    Thanks.

  • Hi Chun,

This behavior is caused by the Idle Channel Detection. On the default configuration the threshold is set to -60dB, so 20%~21% should be approximately this level of attenuation.
On PPC3, you can adjust this threshold and you can use the I2C monitor recorder if you want to know the register values for a specific threshold.

  • Dear Ivan,

    Thank you!!!

  • Dear Ivan,

Let me ask you one more question.

Is there any problem with Idle Channel Detection setting 0?

And I want to turn off EQ or Band Filter altogether.

We are using S / W EQ and should not use EQ on AMP.

Can you check the register to turn off the function?

    Thanks.
