PCM5102A: Frequency response

Part Number: PCM5102A

Hi Team,

The customer's project has 16 RCA outputs, using 16 PCM5102A, and the circuit is as shown in the figure. Now customer encounter a problem, the frequency response between different channels has a large difference, the difference between individual channels can reach a maximum of 0.3dB. Is this data normal? If so, what is the biggest difference in the data sheet? If not, please give suggestions to improve the issue. Thanks.

  • Hi Olin,

I will review this and get back to you by monday.

    Thanks,

  • Hi Olin,

There are two possible sources of gain error in this circuit:

    1. The output filter might vary based on tolerances of the discrete components used.  I assume you are just using a low pass filter, but it can still attenuate in the pass-band if there is any current load on the output.

    2. The gain error of the device can vary from unit to unit.  We specify the gain error as ±6% in this device, which is about 0.5dB.  It is possible that this is what you are seeing in this measurement.  That being said, the typical gain error is 2%, so we should still investigate the filter's contribution to the gain error.

    Thanks,

    Paul
