LMX2820: Internal Temp Sensor Accuracy

Part Number: LMX2820

Hello!

We're querying the internal temp sensor of the LMX2820 at room temperature with 1 RF output enabled and getting values that convert to around 60C - 62C using the equation provided in the datasheet. Does that value seem reasonable for the internal sensor, or are we way off? What would an expected range of temperatures for this part be at ambient room temp? Obviously this depends on the heat sinking, etc, but just looking for a sanity check or reasonable range for these values to fall in.

Thank you!

  • Hi Kevin,

Depending on how good the thermals are, that sounds in the right neighborhood. LMX2820 is a smaller device that consumes several watts even with only one RF output active, so we would expect internal temperature to be high relative to ambient temperature.

Edit to Add: you could also try powering the device down through the POWERDOWN bit in R0, then read back the temperature sensor - it should stay on through powerdown, and it will give you values closer to ambient temperature as a sanity check.

    Regards,
