CDCE6214: Jitter specifications

Part Number: CDCE6214

Hi Team,

Please advise me on  question bellow:

I consider replacing a clock generator IC with the CDCE6214.

However, two devices have different jitter specifications.

CDCE6214 insists 1.5 ps MAX of RMS (1 sigma) jitter in between 12 MHz to 20 MHz.

In contrast, old device insists the jitter specifications as bellows:

Period jitter ( 1 sigma)  8.3 ps Max

Cycle to Cycle jitter ( 1 sigma) 12.8 ps

Long term jitter (1,000 cycles 1 sigma) 41.7 ps

Can you advise me on how to translate these jitter specifications.

Mita

  • Hi Mita,

From RMS to peak-to-peak you can refer to below:

I'm not aware of any direct conversion from 12k-20M jitter to period/cycle-to-cycle jitter, because the former is measured in phase domain whereas the latter is measured in time domain. We typically avoid measuring the noise performance in time domain because the result can be inaccurate. 12k-20MHz integrated jitter is a more common spec.

    Regards,
    Hao
