LMK00304: Maximum Source Termination Value

Hello.

Figure 34. in LMK00304 datasheet says that a 100-ohm source termination is necessary when LVDS output mode with AC coupling. But I would like to clarify the recommended "maximum" value of the source termination so that the effective signal swing at the receiver could be as large as possible. Is a larger resistor (say 1k-ohm) acceptable for proper operation?

Hello,

The recommended termination for this device is 100 ohms and has been tested to get a max output swing of 450mV. You may test larger resistor values using our IBIS model found here to confirm the intended design.

Thank you for your fast reply.

It is not acceptable in my design for the output swing to be reduced by half due to the double termination. So I will try to change the output type to LVPECL as the datasheet recommendation.
