LMX2595: LMX output power file settings

Part Number: LMX2595

The LMX on our board and with the Eval board is not putting out the expected output power.  Because this is happening on two different boards, I am suspecting that there is something common to our programming file(s) that is somehow limiting the output power.  On our board we are utilizing the inductor pullup, and as such expect more power at the output.

If I may upload an example file that is giving about +0.5 dBm

  • Hi Be,

I do not see problem with your register configuration.

Please note, EVM uses resistor pull-up. From the datasheet, at 15GHz output and power setting of 20, the output power is less than 1dBm.

What is your inductor value / part number? Can you share the schematic (inductor pull-up portion is good enough)?

  • Hi Noel,

The pullup is 1 nH inductor with 0.3pF caps, and the output stage goes to the next stage fixed attenuator YAT-3A.

For the measurements, there is a SMP connector that is enabled by rotating a capacitor. It is here that the measurement is made direct to the spectrum analyzer.  The cable loss has been measured at 15.111 GHz ~ -4.59 dBm, and the spectrum analyzer reads -4.15 dBm.

From this I am figuring about 0.44 dBm for the output.

Same is true for another frequency right below the doubler, 14.888 GHz.  It is also measuring ~ -0.28 dBm which would be significantly less than expected.

  • Hi Be,

Have you ever try a bigger capacitor? 0.3pF looks small to me.

If RFoutB is not using, you can simply leave the output floating.
