LMX2594: LMX2594 Phase hit issues

Part Number: LMX2594

Hi team,

Have you ever had phase hit issues with the LMX2594 ?
Do you have any suggestions why I might be experiencing phase hit problems with the LMX2594 ?
Can you suggest any help?

Best regards.
Shinji Nagamine

  • Hi Shinji-san,

Could you be more specific what phase hit issue you are experiencing? A description of your operation procedure and some test plots will be helpful for us to understand your problem.

  • Hi Noel,

I'm using LMX2594 for local oscillator on our wireless equipment.
Now, I'm investigating about bit error which is occurred during temperature changes from +10ºC to -10ºC.

bit error is occurred while lowering the temperature.
bit error isn't occurred while rising the temperature.
bit error isn't occurred at constant temperture.

This phenomenon is also occurred on the mesurement of the atttached blockdiagram.

So,I think that phase-hits of LMX2594 might be one of the causes.

Please tell me whether LMX2594 might occur phase-hits.
I would like any suggestions to prevent phase-hits or to reduce phase-hits.

Setting for our board is below.
    The output frequency is 10408MHz.
The phase detector frequency is 100MHz.
    The register configuration is attached.

  • Hi Nagamine-san,

Did you check the output of LMX2954 while the temperature change?

Regarding the configuration, couples of change are recommended.

Since your fpd is 200MHz, FCAL_HPFD_ADJ should be 0x2. Your reference clock is 100MHz, CAL_CLK_DIV should be 0x0. We can put ACAL_CMP_DLY below 25, that would reduce the calibration speed.

You are not using any vco calibration assist, we suggest make VCO_SEL (Start VCO7) = 0x4 and VCO_CAPCTRL_STRT (Start Capcode) = 0x1.
