CDCE6214: Application Usage Consult

Part Number: CDCE6214
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMK03328, LMK03318

Hi Team,

Customer is looking for 12-ch PCIe 5 clock generator, I see CDCE6214 is 4-ch solution and support PCIe 5 w/o SSC.

I wonder do we have more channels option here and what's the potentials risks for customer to use PCIe 5.0 w/o SSC in their system? Thanks.

Best,

Stanley

  • Hello Stanley,

Please note the CDCE6214 does support SSC (or no SSC).

The LMK03318 or the LMK03328 are 8 channel options that support PCIe 5.

Without SSC you will have greater EMI effects, but you can obtain better jitter performance without SSC.

  • Kia,

But I see the D/S of LMK03318 or the LMK03328 only states it can support up to PCIe 4. I haven't see PCIe 5 mentioned in the Datasheet here. What's the reasons for that?

    Stanley

  • Hello Stanley,

On initial build of these devices, PCIe 5 was not utilized on a large scale. After PCIe 5 became more widely utilized, we tested both devices for PCIe 5 capabilities and both devices meet the requirements.

We have not updated its datasheet to reflect PCIe Gen 5 jitter compliance, but in general this device is an overkill for PCIe. There's plenty of margin and there's no risk of failing PCIe Gen 5.

The PCIe 5 jitter specification for the LMK03318 and LMK03328 will be as shown below.
