LMK61E2: Arbitrary programming algorithm for calculating clock frequencies

We are planning to use this part in many designs to replace another programable synthesizer that has gone obsolete. We need to give our customers the option to program in any frequency using our software utilities. Could TI share the algorithm used to calculate the register map in the LMK61xx Oscillator Programming Tool? We would like to include this algorithm into our own tools to support our customers for the tens of thousands of parts we will ship each year.

Hi Kevin,

I will have to check on the sharing of the register calculation process/algorithm... but I'm not clear why that's needed?

Why can the software tool be used to generate the needed register programming per the configuration inputs and then just proceed with register programming?

Hello Amin,

We like to maintain a high level for the user experience of our products. It much nicer for someone to command our firmware with a single command that says "set the clock frequency to 100MHz" rather than have the customer follow an app note we would need to write, download the TI tool, export the register map, and then import the register map into our software to perform the programming. A highly integrated programming solution would also help reduce the number of support inquiries by simplifying the process and reducing room for user error.

You will find some script data at C:\ProgramData\Texas Instruments\LMK61xx Oscillator Programming Tool\Configurations\Devices\Oscillators\LMK61E2
