LMX2572: LMX2572 Frequency Ramping design resources

Part Number: LMX2572

Hello TI,

I am planning to use the LMX2752 as a frequency ramped LO, starting at an RF output of say 6.100 GHz and ending at about 6.150 GHz.

Can you point me to design resources that I need to do this? I want to understand if it will be phase continuous all throughout the ramp.

Also, I want to know if there are design pitfalls or other things a design engineer should be aware of when using this part for a frequency ramp like that.

This is my first time using or designing a frequency ramp.

Thanks,

Aaron

  • Hi Aaron,

Both datasheet and EVM user's guide has some application examples.

For ramping application, make sure what kind of ramping you are looking - linear frequency ramp or "staircase" ramp is acceptable.

With LMX2572, we can do linear ramp for <100MHz frequency ramp range. If a bigger ramp range is needed, multiple VCO calibration are required for the entire range. As a result, you will get staircase waveform because VCO calibration takes some time.
