CDCE62005 EVM Device Communication Failed

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CDCE62005

Hi,

We are using CDCE62005 EVM for past 8 months for one of our application. It was working fine all these days and today we are facing a strange problem.

We are not able to communicate to the device using USB interface. As per the status window of the GUI, the DEV COMM has failed. Please note that we are using external reference clock at PRI and using external power supply. Please also note that the SPI register values are getting reset by itself to ffffffff. Even if we try to load the register settings via 'Load from File' option the register values are not being changed. During the faulty condition the EVM consumes a current of 615mA.

Please refer to the attached snap for further reference.

The register values used by us is also attached for reference.

  • Hi Anthony,

When the USB status indicator is not illuminated and when the SPI read-back is ffffffff, this indicates that the PC is not able to communicate with the EVM - in this state it is not possible to change the device registers. If you are using a different PC or USB port on the same PC, it is possible that the device driver is not installed - can you try switching to a different USB port or another PC to see if this helps?

There are a couple of other possibilities - if you are using a 64-bit operating system, the current driver released to the web will not support this, so we can send you a new driver to fix this. If the firmware on the EVM's USB controller has been overwritten for some reason, it might be necessary to rewrite the firmware. I can provide instructions on how to do this if this is the problem.

    Best regards,

    Matt

  • Hi Matt,

Thank you for the prompt reply.

Please note that the system is the same and we were using it for testing all these days. The EVM was working fine even today with same system (Win XP). It was noticed in between our testing that EVM is not generating any clock, so I am not suspecting much on the PC, although I will try swapping the PC and update you.

In the mean time can I try modifying the firmware? Please provide me with the detailed procedure to update the same.

Please also let me know for any other possibilities.

    Thanks,

    Antony

  • Hi Anthony,

To load firmware to the USB controller, download this software from ti.com: http://www.ti.com/litv/zip/sllc269. I have attached the firmware file.

To load the firmware to the device, select the USB Device, set the EEPROM size to 512kbits, and select the CDCE62005Fw.bin file for the EEPROM Image. If the USB device is not detected, this can indicate a couple different things. If the TUSB3210 device has been damaged somehow, then communication with the EVM will not be possible. If the firmware has not been erased, but is only somehow corrupted, then hold and release the RESET button on the EVM while applying 0V to pin 5 of U4. This will restore the TUSB3210 to its default state and enable the EEPROM burner to recognize the device and load the firmware.

  • Hi Matt,

Thank you providing the detailed procedure. I tried installing the CDCE utility in another PC and I could not succeeded. I am getting a .NET framework error. Let me know is this related to the OS (Win XP) or some driver update for CDCE. If you have the required .NET please provide the same.

    Thanks and Regards,
