LMK05028: Unable to launch TICS Pro

Part Number: LMK05028
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMX2572

I'm on Windows 10 Pro 1803. I have had TICS Pro installed for some time, and it has always worked fine. Now it has stopped working. I have uninstalled it and reinstalled it (v1.7.5.0) twice, including reboot, and then uninstalled it and installed the latest version (1.7.5.7). The behavior is always the same.

When I try to launch the program, either by desktop icon or by clicking the executable, even with "run as administrator", I get a small dialog box titled "Error while loading". Now, after reinstalling the program, I get this while "Loading LMX2572". Before I got it during the loading of LMK05028, because that was the device I used when it was working. If I click OK in the dialog, the GUI comes up. At the bottom it says "Error loading Device LMX2572". If I do "Select Device" and select LMK05028, I again get the "Error while loading" dialog and if I OK that it says "Error loading Device LMK05028" at the bottom. Also "Possible Reasons: Input string was not in  correct format.". The same happens whatever device I try to select.

I can add that TICS Pro still works on another machine where it was installed, that one has Windows 10 Pro 1903. We installed it on another machine with the latest Windows Pro version, there it works too.

What are the system requirements for TICS Pro? The very latest release notes still refer to a User Guide that does not seem to exist.

  • Hello Christian,

I have attached the user manual below. However, there should be no system requirements to use TICS Pro. We will get back to you with a more detailed response. However, if the user manual does answer your question, please let us know.

    Hope this helps.

    Best,

  • Christian,

Why anything would suddenly break on Windows 10 Pro 1803, but not on Windows 10 Pro 1903, is unclear to me.

Is there something listed in the "Error while loading" dialog? This should typically be a control name or "None", which helps identify where the error happened.

Can you navigate to C:\ProgramData\Texas Instruments\TICS Pro\Configurations\Devices\Network Synchronizer Clock (Digital PLLs)\LMK05028 and upload LMK05028.ini and LMK05028.tcb (if present) to the thread?

You wouldn't happen to be using a locale that uses commas as decimal separators, would you? You might try setting the locale to EN-US if it is not already set this way - I don't expect this to work, but I can't imagine what else would be causing an issue loading an input string the application previously saved and loaded without issue.

    Regards,

    Derek Payne

  • I think you hit the nail on the head there. I had recently fiddled with the locale settings to get comma as decimal separator (that is the proper setting in my region) but apparently did it the wrong way. After doing it properly (changing the "format" to "English (Sweden)" rather than just changing the decimal separator) TICS Pro works normally again.

The content in the dialog when trying to load LMK05028 was "CH0_freq" but that's beside the point now.

    Many thanks.
