LMK03318: The clock synthesizer IC is not giving any output frequency

Hi,

The IC LMK03318rhsr is used in my case to provide 6 output frequencies.The input to this IC is PRIREF_P of 25MHz.
Using TICS Pro software when I try "I2C scan", I can see the device address to be 0x53.
I can read/write registers. I even wrote to page0 of EEPROM of clock synthesizer.

In the hardware end , when I probe the input port I can see 25MHz but on the output I am not seeing any frequency.
Can anyone please tell me why this behavior is observed?

The GPIO configuration that I have kept in the hardware is :
GPIO 0 = high
GPIO1 = high
GPIO2 = low
GPIO3= low
GPIO4 = high
GPIO5 = high

Other pin configurations are:-
HW_CTRL = low
REFSEL1 = low
PDN = high
status0  = high
status1 = high

  • There are few observations regarding this:
    1. In TICS pro, whenever the "Output" section I make the output muxes as 'PRIREF'. And write the registers using this, I can see that frequency at the output.
    2. STATUS0 and STATUS1 pins are high


    In the "PLL" section if I keep the Gain as 0mA then only I am see the output frequencies. 
    But the frequencies are almost half of the expected value.
    So my tweaking the divider ratio I was able to get proper output frequencies.
    Now when I write this into EEPROM and toggle the PDN pin, after the power cycle I am not seeing any output frequency.

    These are the configurations that I have kept in TICS pro:





    Please let me know if I am missing some configurations here.

  • Hi some more info I need to share here,
    1.After writing into EEPROM , when I probe STATUS1 pin , I am seeing the signal is toggling
    In this case I am seeing the proper frequencies.
    Below image shows this condition.


    2.But after power cycle , The STATUS1 pin is high (its not toggling).
    And I am not seeing any output frequencies.

    3.Now to confirm that eeprom data remains the same before and after the power cycle, I did Export EEPROM ->GUI. Then saved the file in text format.

  • Hi Sameeksh, 
    i am not able to load the file you provided in TICSpro. 

    LMK03318's VCO frequency range is from 4.8 to 5.4 GHz, in your screen snippet i see the VCO is at 2.4 GHz.

    Using the input frequencies you provided in the GUI and the outputs I was able to create this config. Try this and let me know if it works.

    Using the configuration you have given when I do "write all register" , I can see the exact frequency that is expected. 

    But the problem remains the same. That when I write to the EEPROM page 5 and then power cycle(GPIO2=high,GPIO3=high) , I am not getting any of the frequencies at the output.

    These are the steps I followed to write the eeprom:-

    I think the eeprom configuration is somehow not read to the registers during POR.

    The "User Control" section has some default configurations. What should I do regarding them, are they need to be changed/updated?!

    The steps shown in "write SRAM" section and "write EEPROM" section does it involve any other thing to be done in EEPROM section of TICS Pro?
    The steps given here are confusing. Reason being that when I configure the EEPROM using "EEPROM" section of TICS pro, I can see the sram being written and then from there eeprom being written.
    But in this case I can see only few registers being written and it doesn't even take time.


    What exactly differs by configuring the eeprom using EEPROM section and Raw Register section?
    Why cant I use EEPROM section only?

    I followed these steps:-

    1.Configured all the output frequencies in TICS pro. ( Input/PLL , PLL and Output section )
    Note:- PLL VCO should be in the range of 4.8GHz and 5.4GHz

    2.Hardware wise:-
    HW_SW_CTRL= low   (EEPROM)
    REFSEL_CLK= low     (Primary reference will be selected)
    GPIO2 = GPIO3 = low   (Page 0 of EEPROM)

    3.Followed the EEPROM writing section in TICS

    4.In the Raw Register section in TICS  [I got help regarding this from your msg]
    R144 as 0x90EA
    R137 as 0x8911
    R144 as 0x9000

    After following these steps now the EEPROM is retaining the config after the power-cycle.
