CDCLVD1216 use as data buffer/switch

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CDCLVD1216

I need some technical help with a TI Clock Buffer. I plan to use the TI CDCLVD1216 part as an LVDS clock buffer, but also have an application

where I need to buffer LVDS data. My questions is will the part work as a data buffer. I’m pretty sure that it will since it is a non-PLL buffer, but

want to verify that there will be no surprises if I do not feed the part a recurring signal. Will this work? Thank You,

  • Tim, yes, that's possible, as long as you use DC coupling or AC-balance data with AC coupling.

The device offers no equalization, meaning that for very fast data rates (let's say 1Gbps and above) you may see more ISI on the data than from a data buffer optimized for a particular operating data rate and channel length/channel loss.
