CDCE6214: USB2ANY I2C Operation

Part Number: CDCE6214
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: USB2ANY, , BQ25180

Hi team,

I have a customer with the below issue using our USB2ANY interface adapter. Note the other PNs listed, in case they are relevant in diagnosing this issue

"We have been using a USB2ANY interface adapter to develop applications for the BQ25180YBGR and BQ27Z746YAHR which are already in use in one of our products, and slated for use in three more.

In the process of evaluating the CDCE6214RGET Clock Generator (for the low-cost TDR we already mention), when tried to use the I2C interface of the USB2ANY it stopped working. It there a way to fix it, and if not, could your provide us with a replacement?"

Thanks in advance!

Marco

  • Hello Marco,

Could you help to elaborate on what exactly has "stopped working"?

I assume it is not able to communicate any commands with the CDCE6214, but is it still able to scan the I2C bus and find the device?

Was the USB2ANY communication with this adapter working prior to this issue? Or did it never work to begin with?

Is this issue only taking place with a single CDCE6214 device? Does swapping the adapter fix the issue?

    Thank you,

    Cris

  • Hi Cris,

    Response below

"The USB2ANY can communicate with our computer over USB, can be configured in USB2ANYexplorer after it downgrades the firmware, and can be upgraded to firmware 2.9.1 in the TICS PRO software that configures our particular CDCE6214.

The issue we are having is that the I2C lines are not toggling. Evaluating the USB2ANY schematic shows these pins are connected directly to the internal MSP430 processor.

In TICS PRO, the scan I2C bus and set I2C address both do not work. TICS PRO cannot successfully find our device given the correct device address.

The non communicating I2C line issue occurred while we were working with the BQ25180 charger EVM and has persisted into the development of the CDCE6214.

We are not using a CDCE6214 EVM, the IC is embedded on our board already with an exposed I2C port.

To be clear, the USB2ANY device is what Daniel referred to as the adapter. We do not have a second USB2ANY device to swap out. we have tried to use the USB2ANY on multiple products now with no success. I have tried it on both of our boards that have CDCE6214 and both do not work."

    Thanks!

    Marco
