LMX2571: FSK SPI Fast mode and I2S mode consulting

Part Number: LMX2571

Hi Team,

My customer plans to use LMX2571 and their DSP chip in their walkie-talkies. The DSP supports SPI and I2S mode. Can you help explain the differences between these two FSK mode? And any considerations for their applications? Customer would like us to provide some recommendations.

What are the differences in terms of speed between I2S and SPI fast mode?

BR

Adrian

  • Hi Adian,
The modes are similar except that the programming format is I2S on dedicated pins instead of using SPI.

bullet 4 of Section 7.3.13 will have more details:

Both are only 3 pins but I2S only requires 16 bits of data vs SPI which requires 8 bits of address & 16 bits of data thus I2S should be faster.

If you require fast sampling due to DSP, I2S is preferable. Matter of fact, typically with DSP I2S has been preferred from what we have seen with customers.

    Regards,

    Vicente
