LMK05318B: I2C address incorrect on PLL device during i2c scan prior to programming

Recently we have seen some LMK05318B devices coming up on the programming software with an incorrect default I2C address in R10.

Is this a known problem with these devices, or is there a risk of address overwriting or corruption during power cycle etc?

Hi Ian,

If you go to Help -> About -> What version of TICSPRO do you see? The latest version is 05-Feb-24, please download it at www.ti.com/.../TICSPRO-SW.

Previous LMK05318B profiles had a bug where the I2C address was programmed incorrectly.

Hi Ian,

I recommend doing so because there were additional bug fixes corrected for the PRIREF/SECREF input settings.

Does the latest version of TICS software also still need the subtraction of one from the i2c register address when using update SRAM -> EEPROM data entry method? Also does the direct raw register update option now work?

Hi Ian,

As of Feb 2024 release, the register address increment/decrement is not needed if you use the "EEPROM" page because the code was updated with a different I2C write function. If you use the "Raw Registers" or "User Controls" page to manually run through the SRAM Direct Write Method for EEPROM programming, then the subtraction of register address is required because these two pages require fixing the TICSPRO core not the specific LMK05318B profile. That will take longer to correct. For now, please only use the "EEPROM" page for the EEPROM programming of the LMK05318B.

One further question -- I saw that previously there had been reports that on occasion, import of hex data from a file resulted in the incorrect frequency outputs being displayed on the GUI..

Does the latest version of TICS software address this issue?

Hi Ian,

At this time, the hex (.txt) imported into the LMK05318B TICSPRO is not guaranteed to update the GUI visuals.

To load and view the proper GUI visuals, it is recommended to import the TICSPRO file (.tcs).

That would be unlikely because we test each part before shipping them out to be sold on ti.com.
