LMX2594: Output Synchronization & Sysreq_req

Hi,

We are using LMX2594 with LMK04832 and ADC12DJ5200

We have sysref_req through LMK04832 SDCLKOUT as shown below,

OSCIN-100MHz, RFOutA&B-3.2GHz, SYSREF_REQ-5MHz,

SYNC pin is not used currently, but there is an option to drive from FPGA.

  1. What output standard should be set for SYSREF_REQ?
  2. To synchronization LMX2594, what are the steps to be followed?
    1. VCO_PHASE_SYNC should be enabled?
    2. MASH_RESET should be enabled?
    3. MASH_SEED_EN should be enabled?

Can you please suggest what Mash & Phase synchronization values to be set.

    Hi There,

    Your configuration is a Cat. 1 sync, you don't need to set VCO_PHASE_SYNC = 1. 

    MASH_SEED is not related to phase sync, leave it = 0.

    You have set MASH_ORDER = 0, please set PFD_DLY_SEL accordingly. See Table 2 in the datasheet for details.

    Hi There,

    There is nothing to do with RFoutA, RFoutB and SYSREFREQ because your configuration is Cat.1 sync. I was wrong in the previous thread, you need to put VCO_PHASE_SYNC = 1 because you are using the CHDIV. No SYNC pulse is needed in Cat.1 sync configuration, phase will always aligned after programming.

    LMX2594 SYNC pin accepts LVDS and CMOS, I suggest use CMOS  for simplicity. INPIN_IGNORE bit should =0 to enable SYNC pin.

    Is it possible for you to share the tics file? with setting mentioned above?

    Note that for the SYSREF_REQ pin from LMK04832, we have series AC Caps and then setting is done for CMOS. That should be fine right?

    SYNC is not driven.

    Hi There

    Your configuration is already correct, expect that you should set PFD_DLY_SEL accordingly.

    If it is a CMOS output, we should make it DC-couple.

    Can you please explain whether SYSREF_REQ has to be applied for LMX2594 Output RFOutA & RFOutB synchronization. Or just the VCO_PHASE_SYNC is enough?

    When we set VCO_PHASE_SYNC enabled in LMX2594, We are not able to see the LMX2594 Lock (Through MUXOUT register).

    I've attached the both LMX2594 and LMK04832 file, please check the files once and let us know anything to be changed.

    Goal is to Synchronize all the LMK04832 Outputs and LMX2594 Output synchronization

    Hi There,

    I don't have problem making the LMX devices to lock with your configuration file. Please note our programming recommendation is, first of all, program all the registers in descending order. Wait for 10ms then program R0 one more time.

    After programming the LMX devices, since it is a Cat.1 sync, all LMX devices outputs will be in phase. Below is the result using the LMX2594PSEVM. 

    SYSREFREQ is used for sysref generation, not phase synchronization. If it is a Cat.3 sync then we need to feed a time critical sync pulse to the SYNC pin. 

    Please provide LMK device configuration file in TICS Pro format, I will review it.

    Hi Ganesh,

    After configurating TICS Pro, in the menu bar, click File --> Save

    TICS Pro will save a file with .tcs extension. 

    To attach a file in E2E, 

    Click Upload and select the saved .tcs file.

    We will be working in Cat1 Sync required, CHDIV=2

    I do not see any Cat1 sync description in the sync procedure

    Hi KLN, 
    If operating in Cat 1 - VCO phase sync must just be set to one and kept at 1 - not toggled. No further action is required on your part.
