LMK04832-SP: How to terminate LVDS output to FPGA LVDS input pins having internal 100ohms termination?

Part Number: LMK04832-SP
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMK04828,

Hello,

When connecting LMK04832-SP LVDS differential output to FPGA differential LVDS inputs having 100ohms termination internally with AC coupling, the 560oms to close the output pins are required to provide DC path as described LMK04828 datasheet Figure 31? Or it is not required at LMK04832-SP?

  • K. Hirano,

No, the 560 ohm resistor is not necessary for the LMK04832-SP LVDS output.  Having the outputs AC-coupled to the internal 100 ohm FPGA connection should be correct.  Please note that you should place the caps close to the LMK04832-SP outputs to minimize reflections from the impedance discontinuity they'll present.

The 560 ohm resistor is present for the LMK04828 because the output driver on that specific part benefits from having a DC path to ground.
