LMK6C: Oscillator input to LMX2820

Part Number: LMK6C
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMX2820, LMK61E08, LMK05318, LMK05028, LMK03328

Hi All,

A customer is considering LMX2820.
We are currently taking measures to reduce phase noise.
Among them, we are considering TI's oscillator for input to OSCIN_P/N.
Please tell me the recommended oscillator that can be used with LMX2820.
The desired specification is an oscillator that can be synchronized with an external input of 144MHz.

Best Regards,
Ishiwata

  • Hi Ishiwata,

Refer to LMX2820 DS for input specs.

i don’t believe we have an OPN for BAW oscillator yet but LMK61E08 is a programmable oscillator.

    Regards,

    Vicente

  • Hello Vicente,

    Thank you for your answer.
I have an additional question: What is OPN?

    Best Regards,
    Ishiwata

  • Hi Ishiwata,

    OPN = Orderable PN

We OPNs for other fixed frequencies in BAW but not 144 MHz.

    Regards,

    Vicente

  • Hello Vicente,

    Thank you for your answer.

When we proposed the LMK61E08, the customer gave feedback that the VCO phase noise was dominant in the LMK61E08. Are there any other products you recommend?
Are there any other BAW products that can be improved over the LMK61E08?

    Best Regards,
    Ishiwata

  • Hi Shuji,
Looking at LMK6x I see the following RMS jitter

    I also see the following:

    +
May I ask, what's the end equipment here? What is the potential volume? That way I can loop the appropriate people here.
    Regards,

    Vicente

  • Hello Vicente,

First of all, can you give me the answer of my question bellow.
    Question:
Don’t you think BAW type devices such as LMK05028 or LMK05318 provides better phase noise performance than LMK61E08 or can you let me know better option than LMK621E08 .

Now, I will report you why I ask this new question.
I will send you a private message regarding the business background as it contains customer information.

At this moment, customer uses the phase noise rather than jitter,as the evaluation metric.
Customer found that the phase noise performance depended on the quality of the reference clock.
So, I asked you the recommended TI devices as the refence source.
Unfortunately, based on their simulation, LMK61E08 might not improve the phase noise performance.

I think LMK61E08 uses conventional LC type resonator resulting slightly Poor phase noise performance that crystal resonator.
In contrast, LMK05028 or LMK03328 hires BAW type resonator which might better phase noise performance than LC ones.

    Best Regards,
    Ishiwata

  • Hi Shuji,
LMK6x - Baw Oscillator does have superior performance over LMK61 which uses traditional LC resonator.
After speaking with the apps engineer who covers the oscillator portfolio he informed me we can create a 144MHz output LMK6x which utilizes BAW.

What is customers phase noise requirement? Do you have the integration band of interest?

The PME of the end equipment sector you sent via PM is Hannes Estl, please reach out to him to coordinate samples for a 144MHz BAW oscillator.

    Regards,

    Vicente
