LMX2594: Full Assist from 11.9 to 12.1 GHz

Part Number: LMX2594

The datasheet says that full and partial assist cannot be used between 11.9 and 12.1 GHz.  What would the issue be if full assist were used in that range?  Are the settings just not guaranteed to be optimal or is there concern the device won't be able to lock in that frequency range using the full assist settings?

  • Hi Josh,

I need to apologize for the confusion made from that statement. What we were trying to say is partial assist and close frequency assist cannot be used at that frequency range. Both of these assist approaches will eventually require a VCO calibration but at that particular frequency range, we need the calibration start with the specified settings. As such, we cannot use partial assist and close frequency assist in that frequency range.

Full assist is fine as we will not calibrate the VCO anymore.

  • Thanks for the reply, I think I understand.  When performing a VCO calibration the settings need to be what are specified in the note but once the settings have been determined we can use full assist with those settings as the VCO will not be calibrated when full assist is used.

  • That is correct.
