Hi Team,

Some questions while designing with CDCE6214.

Output clocks are 1MHz, 2MHz, and 40MHz

The input clock can be from a 25MHz crystal or from a 25MHz TCXO.

The schematics as below and the questions are:

1. Can this chip be controlled to start synchronously on all 3 outputs?

2. Can this chip to be controlled with a enable-input-pin to start all 3 clocks at the same time?

3. Can any I/O pin be used to function as an “Enable-pin”

Hi Peter,

The current configuration in the schematic will put the device in "fall-back" mode. Also the I2C lines should have pull up resistors (see page 38 of the datasheet)

1/2.Yes, syncing can be controlled either via writing the SYNC register or via the SYNCN pin. This can be used to start all 3 clocks at the same time. I2C must be used to set the PDN/SYNCN pin to SYNCN (PDN_INPUT_SEL register to SYNCN(1h)).

3. Using I2C, either GPIO 1 or GPIO 4 can be configured to be a global output enable pin (GPIOx_DIR_SEL to input (0h) and GPIOx_INPUT_SEL to Global OE(2h)).

Hi Sir,

One more question,

If I want two outputs to be enabled/started at the same time (rising edge) with timing synchronized, how precise/close these two outputs can be?

Hi Peter,

I ran a test under the conditions you specified using the evaluation module and performed a measurement with 1 ns resolution and the rising edges were shown in the same nanosecond. Is this sufficient resolution for your application?
