LMK03318EVM: Clock JItter

Part Number: LMK03318EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMK03318, CDCE6214, CDCE6214-Q1

Tool/software:

Hi,

I have a test board where I need to check the jitter tolerance of the clock. I am looking for a external lcok source to generate a single ended clock with an option to introduce jitter.

I searched the web and found LMK03318EVM. Can you please check if this is the right product? and recommend some other product if this is not the right one.

  • Yes the LMK03318 or the CDCE6214 could be utilized here. With these parts you are able to modify the internal loop filter components, which can be adjusted to either improve or degrade the jitter performance.

I also recommend utilizing our PLLatinum Sim software. While it is primarily used for jitter optimization, it can help to simulate the jitter performance of the LMK03318 given the applied loop filter component values.

  • Hi Cris,

    Thanks for the quick response.

Which Eval board  do you recommend to buy? LMK03318 or the CDCE6214.

It should be easy to use. On the test board I have a resistor(0402) which I will depopulate to break the signal from on board PLL. And then I should be able to use the Eval board as the Clock source and connect to the resistor pads to supply the external clock.

  • M,

For simplest east of use, I would recommend the CDCE6214-Q1 EVM. This board can be powered solely from a USB connection to a computer.

    Thanks,
