LMK04828: clock output set up with TICS Pro

Part Number: LMK04828

Tool/software:

Hi there,

I need to set up the clock board on the AMD RFsoc EVM to my pacific frequency, but working with TICS Pro and set the parameters is really time consuming and unmeaning-full, and you don't have a proper documents to explain the tools and setting the PLL parameters in efficient way. I see people doping there register config file in your forum and asking you to verify it. I don't think so is a right way.  but could you please let me know how can I set those parameters to get the my expected frequency in efficient way and fast or at least understand how your tools is working.

thanks

  • Amir,

The User Guide does a better job of walking through TCISPro.  I would recommend playing with a default configuration to help understand the configuration strategy.

First you must evaluate the constants that you already know, like input frequency, output frequency, and VCXO frequency. (For a standard dual-loop setup)

    1. In this case we must find the common factors of the input and the VCXO frequency use the greatest common factor (GCF) that is < the max phase detector frequency (Fpd) for PLL1.  With this factor known we will set the PLL1 dividers in order to have the input and VCXO frequency both equal the (Fpd).

The same process follows with PLL2 except the VCO is variable within a certain range.

    2. Choose a VCO frequency that can divide down to both: your desired output frequency and a common factor of the VCO and the VCXO output.  Once this VCO frequency is decided you follow the same process as Step 1.

    3. Set the output divider to divide down your VCO to your desired output frequency(s)

Although this is very simplified, I hope it helps you get on the right track.  Let me know your specific requirements if you run into problems and I can help resolve them

    Regards,
