LMX2820: Phase noise degredation

Part Number: LMX2820

Tool/software:

Hi

I previously opened this thread:

e2e.ti.com/.../5352972

and now i have another question.

at calibration I use instant calibration with internal dividers and then switch to external mixer in order to minimize phase noise.

The SPI sequence is described in the previous thread.

I notice that the phase noise changes aggressively when i change the frequency in 10MHz small steps.

I use passive, second order loop filter

i have experience with other LMX's, we made "manual" calibration for each frequency: lock on frequency, read back the VCO SEL, DACISET, CAP CONTROL, save it to flash memory and then retrieve the data for each frequency.

The phase noise was stable with slight movement when settling from minimum to maximum frequency.

Maybe the instant calibration process is not working for me? it feels like we are missing something with the calibration.

Thank you.
