TMUXHS4212 Can this MUX be used for PCIe REF CLOCK 100MHz?

Part Number: TMUXHS4212
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMUXHS221, HD3SS3212, HD3SS3202

Tool/software:

Hi,

I have a requirement where I want to use PCIe reference clock which is 100MHz to switch between common clock or SRNS. Common clock is coming from SOM and whereas Separate clock will come from a local clock generator, we are planning to switch between common and SRNS clock. Hence my question here is can I use TMUXHS4212 for this PCIe reference clock selection?

  • Hi Adarsh,

Both clocks are 100MHz, correct? If the mux is only going to be used for this clock signaling, you can use the TMUXHS4212, or you can use the TMUXHS221. The TMUXHS221 is a USB2 mux which can support this signaling at that bandwidth.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

    Thanks,

    Ryan

  • Hi Ryan,

Correct both the clocks are 100MHz, based on certain condition I would like to select the clock either coming from SOM or separate standalone clock from clock generator.

Thanks for confirming, due to space constraint we were looking into a single device with 2 nos of 2:1 Mux, hence thought TMUXHS4212 would be a close suite.

  • Hi Adarsh,

If you are looking for a 2 channel 2:1 mux, then you can use the TMUXHS4212, yes. The HD3SS3202 and the HD3SS3212 also would work in this case, if any of those would work better for you.

    Thanks,

    Ryan

  • Sure we will evaluate HD3SS3202/HD3SS3212.

Thanks Ryan, this would help me to select a right device for our application.
