BQ4802Y: Capacitors for XTAL

Part Number: BQ4802Y

Tool/software:

Hello,

I am using the BQ4802Y and have the 32768KHz quarz hooked up with no capacitors. It seems to work fine although I have not yet tested in the long run.The quarz is specified with a load capacitance of 12.5pF while the BQ4802 requires 6pF. Should I simply use a quarz with 6pF? Or is it ok like this?

Thanks

Kind regards

  • Hi Chosus,

They typical load capacitance spec is 6pF. Since it's a typical value, it's not as strict of a requirement.

I think it should be okay, although this is a >20 year-old part; no one is around from when it was designed, so it is difficult to say exactly what the effects of using a different capacitance will be.
