LMK6C: Low Temperature Performance

Part Number: LMK6C
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LAUNCHXL-F28P65X

Tool/software:

Hi,

I'm interested in using the LMK6C oscillator in an aerospace application. The minimum operating temperature of the application is -45°C.

Has the part been characterised at temperatures lower than -40°C?

In particular what would be the max start up time at -45°C ?

Regards

Richard

  • Hi Richard,

We haven't characterized LMK6C below -40C, but I would expect most parameters shouldn't be impacted too much in practice. The max start up time spec in particular has quite a bit of margin so the 5ms max spec should still apply at -45C. Let me know if you have any other questions.

  • Hi Richard,

Following up on Connor's point, could you share more information about your use case and why you need the lower temperature? Do you have any other requirements for this oscillator such as jitter/phase noise specs, higher temperature range, or any type of high reliability or space-grade device?

  • Hi Andrea,

The use case is a control unit on a helicopter. The expected operating temperature range inside the controller I'm designing is -45°C to 105°C. Normally the minimum temperature is -40°C or -55°C, this seems an atypical application. The total frequency stability is better than our requirement. Low jitter isn't needed. The range of standard frequencies is interesting.

Hi-rel isn't needed though it always helps MTBF and safety case calculations. I came across this oscillator on LAUNCHXL-F28P65X
