LMK03328: Appropriate clock devices for recovery clock from FPGA SerDes

Part Number: LMK03328
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMK04828, LMK05318, LMK04832, LMK03318, CDCE6214

Tool/software:

Dear Technical Support Team,

I have been looking into the clock generator and jitter cleaner.

Input recovery clock from AMD FPGA SerDes.

Input clock (recovery clock): LVDS 100MHz

Output clock: LVDS 200MHz x2 (1 free-run output, 1 PLL output)

Q1.

Can LMK03328 input recovery clock ? It has not clean.

According to the following app note, it describes that narrow-loop bandwidth loop filter can clean jitter.

Can a clock generator act as a jitter cleaner?

Q2.

Do you have any recoomended clock device for clock generator an Jitter cleaner?

Required clock is only 2 output, so for example,LMK04828, LMK04832, LMK05318 seeems to be an over specification.

  • Hi ttd,

Can you please specify the RMS jitter and phase noise requirements for the 200MHz LVDS output clocks? This will help us narrow down the recommendation.

    Regards,

    Jennifer

  • Hi Jennifer,

    Thank you for your reply.

The target specifications for RMS jitter and phase noise have not yet been clearly decided, but would it be possible to show me,

for example, about a product equivalent to Si5396 that has fewer output lines?

    Regards,

    ttd

  • Hi ttd,

The CDCE6214 and LMK03318 can be recommended to support an input of 100MHz and two 200MHz LVDS outputs.

I will also point you to our online Clock Tree Architect tool which helps list out recommended devices based on a given frequency plan. webench.ti.com/.../. This can be used to help narrow your search. I've attached an example PDF export from the tool.
