LMK00105: OSCIN WORKING CONFIRMATION

Part Number: LMK00105

Tool/software:

Hello TI Team,

We have been using OSCIN pin as a LVCMOS single ended input. We chosen this for the sync up purpose. We have a couple of queries mentioned below:

1- What is the output skew between the CLKOUT2 and CLKOUT4?
2- In our case the input will be a three to five pulses of certain time span. Hoping that the output pins are replicating the input signals.
2- Since the datasheet is mentioning that the OSCIN pin can be used as an input for single ended signal, is there anything electrically to provide in selecting b/w normal input and Oscillator input.

  • Hello,

    1. 25ps max.

    2. Yes this is a buffer, the output will be copies of the input signal.

    3. Please note a single ended input clock can also be used at CLKin and this can result in better performance.
The OSCin pin is mostly designed to drive a XTAL.

    Best regards ,

    Vicente

  • Hello Vicente,

    Thanks for the response.

Since we are using 3V3 LVCMOS signal and the datasheet is showing input to CLKin pin max 2Vpp, Does it require to be level translated?

Also, the datasheet is recommending differential input at this pin, stating signal ended input is having degraded noise floor and jitter.

  • Hello,

    CLKin allows for 3.3V signal.

A Differential input is always recommended over SE input for the second reason. If the SE signal is a sine wave, slew rate becomes an even larger concern

LVCMOS usually have good slew rate (square wave)

    Best regards,

    Vicente
