LMK05028EVM: XO frequency of 48.0048MHz

Part Number: LMK05028EVM

Tool/software:

Hello Team,

on the LMK05028EVM the XO input is a 48.0048 MHz clock. Why is exactly such frequency used? Is this a need for a particular application?

Thanks a lot!

Regards

Alex

  • Hi Alex,

Any XO input frequency can be used as long as the following requirements are met:

    1. In the case the DPLL is used, there must be a non-integer relationship between the VCO frequency and the XO input frequency.
    2. The XO input frequency is within the min and max datasheet specification.
    3. The XO input amplitude is within the min and max datasheet specification.

The higher the XO input frequency, the lower the APLL noise, which means better output jitter and phase noise performance.

The 48.0048 MHz meets the above requirements. You can also use 48 MHz instead.

    Regards,

    Jennifer
