CDCE913: EEPROM programming and "CLKIN"

Hello all,

we would like to program CDCE913's EEPROM.

The datasheet states in "7.3.4 Data Protocol":
Before beginning EEPROM programming, pull CLKIN LOW. CLKIN must be held LOW for the duration of EEPROM programming.

Question: Which signal is CLKIN? There is no pin with this name.

Is it "Xin/CLK"? We have a crystal connected to Xin+Xout, no external clock source, so we cannot pull Xin low.
If so: How can we program the EEPROM in this constellation?

Wolfgang,

This is the XIN/CLK pin. In practice, I have not seen any issues with keeping an XTAL connected during EEPROM programming.

Q1: How long does EEPROM programming typically take (i.e. register bit EEPIP is high)?

Q2: Are PLL and clock output stable during programming?

Wolfgang,

Using the GUI, this process typically only takes a few seconds.
Technically speaking, we do not guarantee that the clock outputs are stable during EEPROM programming. In practice, I have not personally seen an issue with this.

We have no GUI.

We want to program the registers with a µC, then verify register content, then trigger an EEPROM write cycle with EEWRITE=1, then wait until EEPIP returns to 0.

Does the programming cycle really take several seconds? We expected something in the order of 10 ms like standard EEPROMs so we could do it on system startup if necessary.

If not using the GUI, this time should be on the order of >100ms.
