LMX1214: Regarding the output frequency of LMX1214

Part Number: LMX1214

Tool/software:

Hi Teams,

LMX1214 has 4 ports for output. Can these four ports simultaneously output different frequencies? Can only output the same frequency? Also, will the signal quality of the auxiliary clock output deteriorate due to phase noise, or will it have no impact

  • All clock outputs except the auxiliary clock output can only produce the same output frequency. The auxiliary clock has a divider that allows it to produce a lower frequency if needed. The auxiliary clock output phase noise performance will be reduced compared to the clock output paths, and the auxiliary clock output maximum frequency is limited compared to the standard clock outputs; but the auxiliary clock output has additional output formats like LVDS that make it easier to interface with FPGA or other standard interfaces. There will be a spur from the auxiliary clock on the other clock output, but the magnitude of the spur can be reduced greatly by properly noise-isolating the supply pins and by following best practice differential routing guidelines.
