LMK04832-SEP: Is it necessary to power any of the power pins w/ an LDO?

Part Number: LMK04832-SEP
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIDA-010274, TIDA-010260, , LMX2694-SEP

Tool/software:

In the TIDA010260 it does not use an LDO to power the LMKx, however TIDA-010274 does. It does not specify on the datasheet but given some inconsistencies between reference designs I wanted to be sure.

  • The LMK04832-SEP (and the LMX2694-SEP) can be operated from switching supplies. Whether or not this is a good idea is application-dependent. The plots in section 3.6 of the TIDA-010260 design report show enormous 1MHz spurs from the DC-DC converters, which no doubt include some spurs coupled in from the clocking ICs. But if these spurs are already anticipated from other AFE rails, or the clock IC contributions are small enough that other sources are dominant, or if the application signal processing can arrange for filtering or ignoring the DC-DC spurs, using DC-DC converters may be a useful optimization.
