LMX1204: SYSREF output in differential or single-ended mode

Part Number: LMX1204

Tool/software:

Hi team,

i chose the LMX1204 for clocks and sysref distribution for a new hardware project.

From the datasheet, the sysref output are differential CML, but i could use this the sysref outputs in single-ended mode.

Do you think that the outputs are usable in single-ended moded  without degrading the electrical characteristics of the signal (such as amplitude distortion, jitter)?

If yes, i can handle the single ended mode in 2 configuration:

  1. i can use a balun transformer for single-ended conversion with AC-coupling on the differential and single-ended side;
  2. i can terminate the unused ouput N with 50 Ohm to ground.

Which of the 2 modes do you think performs better?

Thank you in advance.

Best Regards,

Matteo Ricci
