LMK1D2102: Differences between LMK1D2102 and LMK1D2102L

Part Number: LMK1D2102
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: , LMK1D1204

Hello,

My customer is looking for an LVDS clock buffer.
They consider either LMK1D2102 or LMK1D2102L, but they do not understand the differences between those two devices.

TI.com says typical additive RMS jitter is 5fs at LMK1D2102L and 50fs at LMK1D2102 respectively.
However, looking at the datasheets, there is no RMS jitter differences between them at 156.25MHz use case.
My customer is confused.
What are the additive RMS jitter performance differences between them?

My customer uses the clock buffer at 107.52MHz, which device does TI recommend with what reasons?

Best regards,

K.Hirano

  • Hirano-san,

The LMK1D2102 and LMK1D2102L have practically identical additive jitter. The LMK1D1202L has a typical additive jitter that is 5fs RMS less than the LMK1D2102, but their maximum ratings are the same for a frequency of 156.25MHz.

The LMK1D2102 offers global output enable/disable, whereas the LMK1D2102L offers selectable output swing. If you have no preference between these two options, I would recommend the LMK1D2102L.

    Thanks,

    Michael

  • Hello Kazuhiko,
Can you please elaborate on your question - I'm not following.
The additive jitter maximum for 156.25MHz with the same test condition is maximum 60fs for both devices though there is a 5fs difference in the typical value for LMK1D1202L.

Given the use case is 107.52MHz - LMK1D2102 or LMK1D1202 are good options the difference being LMK1D2102 has two inputs with two output banks with the higher output variants also having amplitude selection pins.

LMk1D1202 doesn't have multiple output banks but it does have a selectable input MUX that can select between 2 inputs. This is different from the two inputs on the LMK1D2102 device where the output banks fan out the input signal for the respective output bank. Refer to images below. If customer does not have need for two simultaneous inputs that need to fanned out at the same time to different banks, I recommend LMK1D1202.

  • Vicente,

I can not find the LMK1D1202 on TI web.
What is that? Where can I get the datasheet?

    Best regards,

    K.Hirano

  • Hello Hirano-san,
Sorry LMK1D1204 is the correct PN.

    Only LMK1D2102 exists.

    Best regards,

    Vicente
