LMK1C1108: Recommended buffer for single-ended to diff.

Part Number: LMK1C1108
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMK01000

Dear Sir or Madam,

The LMK1C1108 achieves very good additive phase noise performance (-168dBc/Hz at 100 MHz - measured).  However its output is single ended. I would not like to give up the benefits of the diff. signals.

I could not find any buffer in your  portfolio that would keep these specs. I have measured the LMK01000 which makes it only up to -158dBc/Hz (measured).

Here are my questions:

  1. Are there any other buffers that convert to differential and that keep the -168dBc/Hz?  The logical levels at this point is not importnat. I gues the higher the swing the better.
  2. Is using baluns an option? Do you have any experiences with this?
  3. Are the values given in the datasheets (e.g. LMK01000 - pp. 7, "Noise Floor" ) differential values or single ended values?

Best Regards.

  • Hi Gruffalo,
We don't have anything that differential that can hit that low of a noise floor.
Baluns can work but they will always attenuate your signal a bit - i have seen interesting phase noise responses due to balun.
    3. Differential

What's your application? Input frequency, desired number of output frequencies, and the formats your receiver requires?

    Best regards,

    Vicente
